To be held in July 2017 in the city of San José, Costa Rica, TICAL2017 opens its call for the presentation of papers around the thematic axes defined by the Program Committee: ICT Solutions for Teaching, ICT Solutions to Support Research, ICT Solutions for ICT Management, Management and Governance, Software Infrastructure and Development, Information Security and Value Added Services for Advanced Academic Networks. Since 2011, the TICAL Conference is the most important meeting for the university community with responsibilities in ICT management in the region. In it, the leaders of the area are nourished by the experiences, initiatives and shared knowledge exposed by their peers and contribute with significant and unprecedented solutions for Higher Education institutions. TICAL is the scenario to share and support the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the universities of the continent, and to empower its teaching, research, extension and management activities.
Mandatory requirements
The papers to be submitted must comply with the following criteria to be accepted:
- Experiences: the works presented should focus strongly on the experiences. TICAL is an area for sharing successes and mistakes between peers. Scientific or merely academic works are not intended.
- Projects or services: TICAL is seeking for papers that describe executed projects or services implemented and not only ideas or not executed proposals.
- Focus on ICT: TICAL brings together the ICT leaders of the universities, which is why it is sought that the papers presented are of interest to them.
- Impact on university strategy: It is considered as a very significant value that the paper describes, if appropriate, the impact of the technological solution presented in the university strategy.
- Classification by thematic axis: Authors must indicate the main axis under which they present their paper. It is possible to choose a secondary axis if the work includes more than one.
Thematic Axes:
The 2017 version of TICAL seeks for papers in the following thematic axes, identified from the current scenario and the trends that are visualized.
ICT solutions for education: experiences in implementing ICT solutions that add value to teaching and learning. Some issues to consider: redesigning learning spaces using innovative technologies; Repositories of open educational resources; Data analysis solutions as support in student learning and monitoring; Technological solutions to facilitate teaching in students with special abilities (hearing loss, visual, etc.) in the university ; Use of mobile devices in teaching.
ICT Solutions for Management: experiences implemented through ICT that seek the improvement in the processes and services of the university administration. Some issues to consider: open government; Data analysis systems to support university management decisions; Solutions that support the integration of applications and institutional data; Methodologies for evaluation, selection and implementation of management support applications; Reengineering of processes supported in ICT, Digital signature applied to the processes; Smart campus and sustainability.
ICT Management and Governance: Governance practices and implemented experiences that contribute to the management of ICT areas. Some issues to consider: initiatives related to the ICT alignment and linking and the university governance; Initiatives in human resources management in ICT areas (incorporation and retention of talents, metrics, organizational structure, dimensioning, knowledge management); innovation and development management in the IT area; Indicators and metrics for decision-making in the ICT area; Service Management; project management.
Infrastructure and software development: experiences of implementation of ICT infrastructure and software development, for the improvement of services and problems solution. Some issues to consider: methodologies for development and implementation of applications and services; Methods and tools of collaborative work in software development; Alternative architectures of databases; High-performance processing and storage; Efficient network management (design, architecture, protocols, availability, capacity, portability); Wireless networks (high-capacity and coverage); Data centers: infrastructure optimization, availability level, collaborative experiences, cloud models.
Information security: experiences related to the development of policies and implementation of initiatives for information security and ICT services management. Some issues to consider: implementation and monitoring of information security policies; Risk management; Identity management; Implementation of Incident Response Centers; Protection of infrastructure, applications and services; Management of early warnings for security risks.
Added Value Services of advanced academic networks: services provided by academic networks that add value to universities. Implementation and adoption experiences. Results achieved in universities.
ICT Support Solutions for Research: in the framework of the TICAL2017 Conference, the RedCLARA research community meeting will be carried out, an action being developed under the BELLA project, funded by the European Commission. Therefore, for the TICAL sessions under this axis, it is expected receiving papers whose orientation is: experiences of collaborative work between researchers and the ICT area of the Institution. What is expected?: ICT solutions where the work on research projects will be highlighted with the support of the university's areas of technology; it is important to consider and/or highlight aspects such as: working models, technologies and IT services used, results and benefits obtained, difficulties and lessons learned.
